South African books to add to your reading list this festive season - part 1

Hiya book lovers With Christmas being just around the corner, I thought I’d highlight some South African reads that should go on your TBR pile. We have so many phenomenal SA authors that deserve to be celebrated , and because this list will be an extensive one, I am splitting this post and making it a series. I know it won’t be possible to include every single South African author, but I am going to try to  highlight books from every genre and make it as diverse as possible (so, with respect, please don’t ask me why so and so isn’t on the list – there’s more to come).  First up:  1. Sing Down the Stars by Nerine Dorman A book I recently received for review ( thanks you NB publishers ) and am super excited about diving into is Sing Down the Stars. Win a R300 Bargain Books voucher (giveaway closed)

Update: Congratulations to Zayaan , who has been selected as the winner of the R300 voucher through Random . org. Please get in touch within 24 hours to claim your prize. :) It’s almost time for the Bargain Books warehouse sale and I’ve got a R300 voucher up for grabs. This sale is always a huge highlight for me because I’ve found plenty of gems in the past, particularly in  the YA , kids and classics section. Because the last sale, which took place on heritage day earlier this year, was so successful, this time around the wonderful people at BB have stretched the  sale  over three days. The sale takes place from the 16 th  – 19 th  December at their warehouse in Athlone (1o  Mymoena Crescent ) . I'm unfortunately not going to make it for this year's sale, but I'll be there in spirit and cheer you all on as you shop your little bookish hearts out. I’ve teamed up with Bargain Books to give one of you a chance to win a R300 voucher  (which you’d need to...

Teens, Tweens and Turtles – Why Teens are the Unsung Heroes in the Battle for Change

Hi book lovers, Today, local author Joanne McGregor is taking over on my blog. I've had the pleasure of reading some of Joanne's previous books, which includes Turtle Walk, Scarred (one of my absolute favourites) and The Law of Tall Girls. And that's not even half the list. But, we're here to talk about Turtle Walk, and so much more. The first book in the Ecowarrior series, Turtle Walk is one of Joanne's first and traditionally published books. I read and loved the book years back, but this time around, Joanne has revised, revamped and self-published the series. The first two books of the series, Turtle Walk and Rock Steady have both been released (in fact, happy book birthday to Rock Steady, book two, released yesterday), and Fault Lines will be out soon. Because the book series focuses on conservation,  I've asked Joanne to chat about why she believes teens are so essential in the fight to help preserve our planet – be it through climate change awareness cam...
